Welcome to Chilliwack Minor Football. The association is known as “The Chilliwack Giants”. We are a charitable volunteer organization registered under the Societies Act. We endeavor to provide the opportunity for children to play football from ages six to eighteen. The majority of our money is raised through parent and children participation in fund raising events. The club has an annual operating budget of $125,000.00 of which approximately 1/3 is raised through registration fees.
Unlike other sports, such as hockey, parents are not responsible for buying football equipment for their child. The equipment is worth $600.00- 800.00 per child, and is supplied by the club. Registration fees go towards paying for new equipment and uniforms, field rental, referee fees, insurance for players and club members, insurance for club assets, league fees and the daily running of the club.
To insure against loss of equipment, parents will be required to provide to the club at the time of issuance of the equipment, a post dated cheque for December 1st in the amount of $250.00. This cheque will be returned to you upon the return of all the loaned football equipment. Failure to return the equipment to the club will result in the club cashing your cheque to cover the cost of the missing or damaged equipment.
Volunteers: The club relies on volunteers to operate. Click here for volunteer requirements and opportunities.
Fundraising: Most of the club’s income, comes from fundraising, usually by ticket raffles held during home games and special functions. The club seeks the assistance of parents who either own businesses or work for a company, to donate monies or prizes for the raffles. These prizes will be raffled off at home games and special fund raising events throughout the year. A letter from the club to your business or employer can be obtained from the club president. Those organizations that contribute early in the season will have their names advertised at all of our home games. Corporate Sponsors are also recognized on our website here.

CLUB HISTORY: Late in 1991 Keith Currie, Don Wiens and Wayne Bjorge decided that minor football had been missing from Chilliwack for far too long! Chilliwack Minor Football was born as a result of this decision. Our inaugural season started with one Junior Bantam and one Flag team in 1992, both of these teams were named the Greyhawks. By 1994 our association had grown to cover all six age divisions from Flag to Midget, and the team names had been changed to the Giants.
Up until 1995 all divisions had played in the Vancouver Mainland Football League. In the 1996 season all divisions moved over to the Valley Football League. The teams that make up the VCFL are on average located much closer than the teams that made up the VMFL, so our traveling times are much less.
Since then, the Chilliwack Giants have grown to an average of 300 kids playing football or part of our cheerleading squad. 2007 marked the 15th anniversary of Chilliwack Minor Football. This year we registered the most players we’ve had in 15 years. Thank you to all our volunteers for your time and commitment to ensuring these players enjoyed their football experience this year.
Below are exerpts from of a story about one of Chilliwack Minor Football's founders and 2007 "Spirit of BC" Community Sport Winner, Keith Currie.
"By not saying 'No' in an Abbotsford mall, Keith Currie changed Chilliwack's sports landscape forever. It was around 1990 when Currie's eldest son Clint pulled short near a minor football registration table during an otherwise mundane mall shopping trip. "We just happened to be going by the registration table, and (Clint) seemed serious about signing up, so I thought why not?" Currie recalls.
Currie
helped coach in Clint's first year [in Abbotsford], then got to work on finding
a few games closer to home. In 1992 he became the founding president of Chilliwack
Minor Football, which boasted two teams; a flag football squad to introduce
the sport and a Bantam team for Clint. Soon, football fever was catching on.
"It was a pleasant surprise to get as much interest as we did so we expanded,"
Currie recalls.
Over the past 15 years, the two-team Greyhawks program has slowly grown into a full-fledged Giants powerhouse, with teams in all age categories competing in the Valley Minor Football League.
Currie stayed on as a full-time volunteer coach for 10 years, and helped in limited capacity right up until last season, when he helped lead the Bantam club; headed by none other than son Clint, the one whose interest at an Abby Mall lit the fuse for the rebirth of a once-dead sport.
As if starting an entire minor program wasn't enough, Keith was convinced to help create a junior team in Chilliwack; offering a natural extension to minor players looking to bridge the gap into university ball. Again, Currie stepped forward as inaugural president. "I think I was basically talked into it," he laughs.
Currie brought on board long-ago CSS teammates Dave Hayens and Jim Sache—the latter a Sport Hero winner in 2006—and the Valley Huskers were born. "We tried and tried on that one then finally got all our ducks on the line. We wanted to put a team together so that's what we did."
Now Currie spends time as a casual family support worker, "Just to keep me busy." Looking back, he's doesn't regret a minute spent organizing, coaching, collecting stats, and helping kids reach their grid iron goals. As he says, smiling, "I'm just glad the ball wasn't dropped."
