WEEK 6 - CLOVERDALE
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants hosted the Cloverdale Tigers at Townsend field Saturday. A fast start by the Tigers left the Giants in a hole early, and despite their strong play were unable to comeback falling 30-8.
Blues Offensive Line had their work cut out for them, facing a massive Cloverdale Defense. Guards Cole Dempsey and Max Kiener, Tight-ends Keagan Stephens and Tyce Underwood, were led from the middle by Center Hunter Gamboa and played like the Giants they are, controlling the line of scrimmage and giving QB Logan Rainkie time to get plays off. The Giants had to fight hard for every yard against a swarming Tigers Defense, Tailback’s Jackson Gamboa and Logan MacDonald managed to find space to run, behind WR’s Kayden Gannon’s and Logan Sargent’s blocks. FB Caleb Deacon pounded the ball up field, punishing the Tigers D. Landon Keddy found daylight, rumbling into the end-zone for the lone Giants score. Jackson Gamboa was successful on the PAT.
Linebacker Caleb Deacon led a wave of blue that included Logan Sargent and Jackson Gamboa, which crashed down upon the Tigers runners. D-Tackles Nathan Heuring, Max Keiner and Cole Dempsey once again shut down the middle of the field, forcing the Tigers to the outside and into the arms of Ike Cartensen. Tackle Parker Hansen recorded 2 solo tackles. Corners Nolan Green, Mason Adam and Felix Samokhvalenko’s lockdown coverage, in conjunction with the Giants' pass rush of D-Ends Landon Keddy, Hunter Gamboa and Tyce Underwood, complicated things for Cloverdale’s strong armed QB, who threw a season-low and finished the game with 0 completions.
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants will travel to Meadow Ridge this Saturday to play the Knights.
Week 5 - ABBOTSFORD
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants traveled to Abbotsford Saturday to face off against the Falcons. A slow start by the Giants left them in a hole early, and despite their strong play were unable to comeback falling 30-0.
Guards Cole Dempsey and Max Kiener, flanked by Tight ends Keagan Stephans and Nolan Green, did a great job controlling the line of scrimmage, giving QB Logan Rainkie time to get plays off. Despite a strong Falcons Defense, the Giants moved the ball well. TB Logan MacDonald fought hard for yards, behind WR Kayden Gannon’s best blocking of the season. TB Jackson Gamboa made numerous Falcons miss tackles for big gains and FB Landon Keddy kept his feet moving, dragging 4 Abbotsford players forward while refusing to be brought down. Unfortunately the Falcons D would keep the Giants out of the end zone.
The Giants D continued their great play, but the Flacons capitalized on a few missed tackles putting points on the board. D-Tackles Parker Hansen and Nathan Heuring once again shut down the middle of the field, forcing the Falcons to the outside. Blues Corners Mason Adam and Felix Samokhvalenko, did a great job shedding blocks to get at the runners, while Ike Carstensen made some great tackles to bring the Falcons running backs down before they could gain yards. D-Ends Landon Keddy and Hunter Gamboa spent a great deal of the game in the Falcons backfield, harassing their QB and chasing down runners. As they have done all season, Blues linebackers Caleb Deacon, Logan Sargent and Logan Rainkie made tackles from sideline to sideline. Jackson Gamboa chased the Falcons running back 70 yards down field, tackling him short of the end zone and firing up the Giants and their fans. Cole Dempsey had the special teams’ play of the day, busting through the line and blocking the Falcons last PAT attempt, allowing the Giants to keep the high powered Abbotsford offence to their lowest points of the season.
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants will return to the friendly confines of Townsend Park this Saturday, hosting the Cloverdale Tigers.
WEEK 4- MISSION
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants hosted the Mission 9’ners under the lights on Friday night, prevailing 34-12.
Blues Offense was rolling from the start. Logan Sargent had a huge block to allow Jackson Gamboa to get to the outside for a 50 yard scamper, before getting pushed out of bounds at the 3 yard line. Caleb Deacon would capitalize on great blocking from the O line, following Center Hunter Gamboa into the end zone for Blues first TD of the night. After Mission regained the lead, Blue moved the ball to the 1 yard line and Cole Dempsey over powered the Mission D line, diving them into the end zone to retake the lead. Tyce Underwood and Max Kiener took command of Blues O line, opening a massive holes for the Giants running backs. Jackson Gamboa took full advantage of the room to run, and with a great block by Kayden Gannon, was able to break a tackle and find the end zone.
Landon Keddy started the 2nd half with a powerful 70 yard run that saw him break multiple tackles before being finally brought down at the 4 yard line. Keagan Stephans made a big block at the line, which gave Ike Carstensen an unobstructed lane to the end zone. QB Logan Rainkie completed a 15 yard pass to Kayden Gannon, followed by a great run that set the Giants up deep in Mission territory. Logan MacDonald would capitalize, finding the end zone for the last TD of the game. Jackson Gamboa converted 2 PAT kicks to round off the Giants scoring.
Big Blues Defense smothered the 9’ners, Corners Nolan Green and Mason Adams broke blocks to get at Missions runners. Tyson Jorgenson, playing his first reps at corner, was in on tackles all game and recorded his first solo tackle of the year. Linebackers Logan Rainkie and Caleb Deacon seemed to be everywhere, bringing down Missions runners before they could gain yards. Defensive Tackles Parker Hansen and Nathan Heuring fought hard all game, plugging up the middle of the field and forcing the 9’ners to the outside and into the unwelcoming arms of Tyce Underwood and Landon Keddy.
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants will play their next game Saturday Sept 28th, travelling to Abbotsford to face the Falcons.
WEEK 3 - CHILLIWACK RED
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants were at home on Saturday to face off against the Atom Red Giants, and after an intense battle prevailed 38-18.
Blues Offense played like the Giants they are, Guards Max Kiener and Cole Dempsey controlled the line of scrimmage, giving QB Logan Rainkie plenty of time to get off plays. Blue wasted no time putting points on the board, with Fullback Landon Keddy breaking multiple tackles and scoring on their 1st offensive drive. Tailback Jackson Gamboa found the end zone 3 times, behind huge blocks by Receiver Kayden Gannon and Tight End Keagan Stephans. Following Tight End Tyce Underwood, Landon Keddy would find his way into the end zone once again. After Blue recovered the kick off, Center Hunter Gamboa made a great block to open a hole for Tyce Underwood to find his way into the end zone.
Blues Defense would not let the Red Giants off easy, corners Nolan Green and Mason Adams limited Reds strong armed QB to 2 receptions. Ike Carstensen, Logan MacDonald and Caleb Deacon made tackles all over the field. Linebacker Logan Sargent had the tackle of the day, stopping Red just short of the end zone on a conversion attempt. Defensive Tackles Tyson Jorgenson, Parker Hansen and Nathan Heuring shut down the middle of the field, stopping Reds Running backs when they dared run it up the middle.
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants will play their next game at home Sept 20th at 7:30pm against Mission under the bright Friday night lights.
WEEK 1 - N.LANGLEY
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants travelled to Langley on Saturday to kick off their season against the North Langley Bears. Despite a strong showing they fell short 22-12 at the final buzzer.
Blues Offense, led by outstanding play of QB Logan Rainkie, controlled the time of possession. Fullbacks Caleb Deacon and Landon Keddy, pounded the ball up the middle of the field, dragging North Langley Linebackers for big gains. Tailbacks Logan MacDonald and Jackson Gamboa got to the outside, and behind great blocking by Receivers Ike Carstensen and Logan Sargent, got first downs to keep the Giants drives alive. Blues O line, led from the middle by Center Hunter Gamboa and flanked by Guards Cole Dempsey and Max Kiener controlled the line of scrimmage, giving the Giants plenty of time to get plays off. Tight Ends Keagan Stephans and Tyce Underwood keep the speedy Bears D Ends out of the backfield.
The Giants Defense was fired up from the start, Linebackers Jackson Gamboa and Kayden Gannon seemed to be everywhere, making huge tackles to end North Langley’s drives. D Tackles Tyson Jorgenson, Parker Hansen and Nathan Heuring shut down the middle of the field, forcing the Bears to the outside and into the waiting arms of D Ends Tyce Underwood and Landon Keddy. Any Bear lucky enough to get past the line of scrimmage was brought down by Blues Corners Ike Carstensen and Nolan Green.
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants will play their next game at home on Saturday Sept 14th at 10:00am against their Atom Red brothers in what is sure to be an exciting game.
The Cheam Source for Sports Atom Blue Giants CHILLIBOWL 1-3
Behind outstanding Offensive line play by Max Kiener, Cole Dempsey, Tyce Underwood and Keagan Stephans, Kayden Gannon had all day to get plays off. Tailback Jackson Gamboa broke free for 2 TDs behind big blocks by Caleb Deacon and Ike Carstensen. First year Centers Nathan Heuring and Hunter Gamboa had no problem getting off perfect snaps, while getting their hands on the opposing teams blitzing Linebackers.
On Defence, Landon Keddy was a force at Defensive End, recording multiple QB sacks, tackles and pressures. D Tackles Tyson Jorgenson and Parker Hansen controlled the middle of the field. The Giants Linebackers Logan MacDonald and Logan Sargent, led by 2nd year player Logan Rainkie, closed down lanes and made clutch tackles, while Mason Adam, Nolan Green and Felix Samokhvalenko closed off the corners.
